Mgr, System HW Sustaining Engineering

Job Summary
As Manager of System Hardware Sustaining Engineering you will fulfill a key, high visibility role in the System Hardware Engineering group for Core Storage Engineering. This group is the "First Engineering Responder" for controller and storage product quality issues. It has three main areas of focus - Customer/Field related issues, Manufacturing issues and product quality metrics analysis in support of proactive early problem resolution.
This position manages ongoing engineering sustaining activities across multiple disciplines including electrical and mechanical engineering, and low level software via direct resources as well as resources leveraged from other groups. You will be responsible for tracking ongoing quality, identifying issues and trends, solving problems with your assigned resources, and coordinating with other groups to deliver solutions and increase quality.
Strong communication skills are required as this role provides regular readouts to executive staff and interacts with customers on key escalations. You will need to establish a close partnership with manufacturing and field support teams; understanding their requirements and providing them with effective and timely solutions.
Job Requirements
Essential Functions:
A major part of your responsibility will be to manage a group of Engineers responsible for:
Supporting released controllers and storage shelves
Design or material changes to released products
Problem and root cause analysis
Efficient near and long term solutions to HW quality issues
Proactive actions based on visibility to problems or pending problems visible through data analysis
Project planning and execution to solve quality problems, often cross-organization
Engineering change management for areas of responsibility
Evaluating materials, properties and techniques used in production of storage systems
Material qualification for EOA components
Product qualification/validation activities for post-release engineering changes
Manage the Engineering response for critical customer escalations.
Deliver quality readouts to executive management and other organizations.
Establish operational objectives and work plans, and delegate assignments to team members.
Develop, modify and execute company policies that will positively affect immediate operations.
Implement new projects, policies and procedures for the department(s); and ensure that project goals are met.
Develop proposed budgets for approval and assure adherence once budget is approved.
Utilize previously technical, project management, and people management experience to actively lead projects and manage portfolio of activities that improve product quality.
Take responsibility for results, including costs, methods and staffing.
Requirements:
Strong oral and written communication skills are essential.

Strong prioritization and management skills required to control the wide range of activities across multiple disciplines and constituencies.
A clear understanding of the product development cycle, technical requirements and project management.
A strong understanding of concepts related to computer architecture, storage, and system software.
Experience in computer and/or storage systems preferred.
Experience with developing budgets and predicting project costs.
A demonstrated ability to manage professional level employees across multiple disciplines.
Experience sustaining products with an ODM or OEM Partner preferred.
Education
A minimum of 5 years of experience as an individual contributor and a minimum of 5 years as a people manager is required.
A Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science, a Master Degree, or a PhD; or equivalent experience is required.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
