Senior Accountant - Architectural Coatings

The Sr. Accountant provides accounting support to the Architectural Coatings business unit. The Sr. Accountant must be able to adhere to strict deadlines, identify and implement process improvements, and maintain a strong internal control environment.
Supports the month end closing process; including standard and ad-hoc monthly journal entries, miscellaneous re-class journal entries, ad hoc analysis, and reconciling between different systems (COGNOS and SAP).
Performs monthly reconciliations of key ledger accounts and partners with channel finance to conduct regular balance sheet reviews.
Completes monthly HFM Trial Balance submissions for all Architectural Coatings USCA locations.
Ensures proper accounting treatment of various accounts including pre-paids and accruals, trend analysis, and overall balance sheet integrity.
Identifies process improvement opportunities to streamline the monthly closing process, SAP financial flows, and various cross functional flows to drive time and cost savings.
Partners with Global Business Finance Support counterparts to identify and implement best practices solutions across locations/strategic business units.
Ensures the company's assets are adequately safeguarded through the development and implementation of effective internal controls within a prescribed SOX environment.
Drives compliance with PPG Controller's Manual/GAAP and Internal Controls.
Completes Ad Hoc projects as needed
Minimum Required Education and Experience:
A bachelor's degree in an accounting or finance related field of study is required
A minimum of 4 years of previous accounting experience required
Must possess a solid understanding of accounting principles (GAAP) and must have experience in application
Ability to identify and resolve reconciliation discrepancies, attention to detail
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Ability to work independently and provide alternatives to decision makers
Expertise in Excel; SAP and Inventory/Cost Accounting experience preferred

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
